Nickname:
Big Tone I got the name at our Pig Bowl Practice. Pig Bowl is a charity football game we have played every year for the last 33 years. I played in 12 games.
Police Softball screen name: BigToneSSD
Sports Background: Played baseball, football, and soccer at Rio Americano HS until 1983. Went to Sacramento City College and played Football for a year and Baseball for two years.
Softball History:
Played for several local teams before joining the Sheriff’s Department in 1990. I have been playing for the Sac Razorbacks since then at a variety of positions. I started out in centerfield, and have slowly eaten my way into playing first base and DH.
Proudest Softball Moment:
My proudest softball moment was coming up one run short of beating the LA Sheriff’s Red team in 1994 at the Police Games. We won the Silver medal. I would have to say my second proudest moment was being the announcer at the World Series All-Star game and the number of fans who attended.
Lowest Softball Moment:
My lowest moment has not ever occurred yet as any day competing against other cops has been a good day. It will probably occur the day I hang up the cleats.
Police Softball Goal:
To help the Sac Razorbacks vault into the top 10 teams and podium at the World Series in October.
What do you see as the future of Police Softball:
Our sport is cruising along in the right direction. It is growing everyday, and helping us form bonds with guys we may never have known otherwise.
What would you change about Police Softball:
If I could change one thing about Police softball, it would be the Ultra big combo teams. It would be a great world if we could all play with our own agencies and compete against our brothers. But, the reality is we have formed bonds with each other by combining with other guys who enjoy our sport.
