Sports background:
Was a 3-sport letterman in high school (Baseball, Football, Wrestling) Voted All-District Catcher & All State wrestler in senior year. Went on to play baseball at Arkansas State University. Former competitive power lifter and body builder.
Softball History:
Played first game of softball in Missouri in 1985, playing in a fast pitch league. (Got struck out 5 times by 50 yr old pitcher) Started playing competitive slow pitch softball in 1991 in Dallas, Texas. Has been a member of Men’s B/C team NYPD (New York Pizza Deli) non-police team for several years.
Past Police Teams:
Played and managed the Dallas Police Softball team, Dallas/Texas Lightning from 1992-2000. Also played with the Texas Javelinas & the Pasadena Pack.
Proudest Police Softball Moments:
Proudest team moment was in 1995 when Texas Lightning finished 2nd in the Smith & Wesson National Police Softball Tournament at ASA Hall-of-Fame Stadium in OKC. Proudest individual moment was being voted All-Tournament of the 1998 World Police Games Softball Tournament.
Lowest Softball Moment:
I really don’t have a “low” in softball. It is a game I love to play, so if/when I have a low moment, then it would be time to step down.
Future personal goals in Police Softball:
Would like to see Team Texas place in the top 3 of both the Dayton & Palm Springs tournaments in the next year or 2 and would like to win one or both tournaments before hanging it up.
Where do you see our sport in 5-10 years:
The past several years I have seen police softball in the state of Texas do into a decline. I hope that in the next several years there is a spark in the interests of various law enforcement teams to further participates in police softball. In Texas the state Police Games are now open to both Police/Fire. Even though this may not sit well with some, I feel that the merge of Police/Fire tournaments may be in the future.
