Ohio 5-0 and the NYPD Blues take The 2012 Title
30th Annual Battle of the Beach East Coast Conference Championships
The Battle of the Beach started off Thursday with 6 teams competing in the Masters Divisions playing bracket ball and one round of double elimination. The Host hotel the Hampton Inn was home to all the night time early festivities thursday nights party was attended by not only the Masters teams and wives but all early arrival teams were invited close to 200 people attended and free beer and food was provided by the Taphouse bar and grill. Once the elimination games resumed on Friday Detroit Metro Masters and Mid Atlantic Lawmen were eliminated early. Wayne Oakland came in 4th with Tri-State coming in 3rd place. Ohio Lawmen Masters team double dipping the new Mason Dixon Dawgs. MVP for Ohio Lawmen was Jake Negray who got stronger as the tournament went on all weekend. Vic had the Mason Dixon Dawgs rolling all tournament but the Ohio Lawmen are old professionals and got hot and went on a roll.
Friday night party had over 450 attend with Police friendly restaurant Beach Bully cater the food and the open bar was a huge success, All 7 kegs were floated along with 50 cases of beer. The new T-Shirt designer was rolling putting out the new Tournament shirts. New teams were sporting their T-shirts (KC) hehe and the atmosphere was a blast. I had numerous friends, prosecutors and a judge stop by and they were impressed on the gathering of teams and how we all were enjoying ourselves. Thanks guys.

Opening Ceremonies were attended by all teams, Honor guard provided by a team who was attending for the first time Virginia Beach Sheriffs Office, Taps was played by retired Master Police officer VBPD Dana Johnson. Dana lost his brother in the line of duty shooting with the LAPD in the mid 80s. Three fellow brothers in the Law Enforcement Community were honored for their work in charitable functions promoting and assisting others. Ohio Lawmens Tom Siedecki for organizing the raffle and all the hard work put in to assist the Wounded Warriors. I know this raffle helped me donate more money to the causes we all believe in. Maryland Outlaws Kevin Deck and his team put on a charity tournament in August with the sole purpose of raising funds for a Kids awareness charity. Wayne Oaklands Andy Wurm for all the hard work on his USSSA tournament raising funds for fallen officers families . Great job Tom, Andy and Kevin well deserved.

Bracket ball started out with 26 teams competing. 4 teams in the Bronze division. Defending Champion Brooklyn Misfits beat newcomer VBSO to claim the Bronze championship again. Bridgeport Conn came in 3rd with Lancaster Va. finishing fourth. These teams show me every time I watch all these teams play what Police Softball is all about.

Once bracket play ended we split the Gold Silver divisions into their respective Divisions. Bracket winners were Mid Atlantic #2 , NYPD Blues, South Florida, Toronto Ca, Shamrocks NJ, Kansas City PD, Top 12 teams played in Gold and bottom 10 played in Silver Division.

Gold Division Saturdays play ended with four undefeated teams heading into Sunday NYPD Blues Team Jersey and Shamrocks playing Ohio. Ohio Lawmen beat Shamrocks 34 to 33, NYPD Blues beat Team Jersey 31 to 19. NYPD then beat Ohio Lawmen placing themselves in the Championship finals waiting on the losers bracket winner. In a tough 12 team field Detroit Finest, Mid Atlantic#2 Steel City and Kansas City were eliminated on Sunday morning coming in tied for 9th, Mid Atlantic Demarini Lawmen lost to a hot Toronto Team, Suffolk County NY lost to South Florida places both teams tied for 7th, Team Jersey lost to South Florida and and Shamrocks lost to Toronto Ca. Toronto and South Florida played into extra innings where the game was called due to field conditions both teams tied for 3rd with Ohio Lawmen 2nd and NYPD Blues taking the championship with Hall of Famer Flip Mcgovern earning MVP honors. On Sunday a mist rain started and stayed with the tournament all day. The complex is set up with one of the best drain systems so the fields stayed playable until the final games.

Silver Division was extremely competitive with Ohio 5-0 winning the championship, Capital city 2nd and Charles County 3rd, 4th Greene County Ohio, Louisville and Tri-State tied for 5th, DC enforcers and Detroit Metro tied for 7th Maryland Outlaws and Dayton PD tied for 9th.

Fellas sorry for the delay I was busy catching up with work issues and recovery time. Thanks to all my friends, teammates and family for helping me out.
