California Quake
Latest Tournament Report:
Desert Classic Champs!

In 2008:
The Quake have been so good in the past they consider their #3 finish in the West rankings a disappointment. That alone is a testament to how good this team has been because most teams would love to crack the Top 5. In the last three years they have finished #1, #1 and #3 in the West. Much of their 2007 season saw them missing 06 World Series MVP Chris Cooper to injury which surely hurt them. Even when Chris played with them, he was not at 100%. Expect to see a much healthier Chris in 2008. In the off season, the Quake signed 2007 Sportsman of the Year Keith Benjamin and All National Team outfielder Andrew McCormick from the DEA Combo. Keith can play most any position including pitcher but PoliceSoftball.com suspects you will see him mostly at SS or 5th man. Andrew gives the Quake some great wheels in the outfield. With Ronnie Connor, Tom Larocque and Andrew in the outfield, we think you will see the Quake employ the 3 man outfield more often in 2008. The signing of Andrew arguably gives the Quake one of the best outfields in all of police softball. The Quake are Led by coaches Derwin Longmire and Tom Larocque and these coaches will have many weapons to hurt you with including power hitters Guillermo Guerra, Will Mannion and 2006 West Coast Player of the Year, Jeff Regino. 2008 OUTLOOK: The Quake team has a strong tradition of excellence and 2008 should be another reminder of why they have this tradition. Offensive power, speedy outfielders coupled with powerful throwing arms will be the team’s bread and butter. If you had to look for a weakness in the Quake, it could be age but that hasn’t hurt NY Metro so we don’t expect it to hurt the Quake in 2008. The additions of two of the most talented players in the nation coupled with no known personnel losses should propel them back to the top of the totem pole

In 2006:
World Series win solidifies them in the top spot. 8-0 against the best the nation has to offer including two wins over Ohio and a win over NY Metro. A little hot and cold throughout the year but the World Series win takes care of all that. For the second consecutive year they are the best in the west!!! For next season the Quake are looking at possibly going to Houston, Sterling Hts. And maybe even taking the show on the road to Australia re-affirming their spot as west coast ambassadors.

Summary
The California Quake (Formerly the Nor Cal Quake) has been in existence since 1997, we began as a combination team with the intent of competing with the Southern California teams. We were initially selected from six agencies throughout the eastern portion of the San Francisco Bay Area. In recent years we have expanded to the tip of Southern California to include L.A. County Sheriff''s Deputies and California Department of Corrections Officers. In 2005 we changed our team name to the California Quake. Our team is captained by Derwin Longmire from the Oakland Police Department and co-captained by Deputy Thomas Larocque of the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department. We have four original members remaining and three additional members who were added late in our maiden year.
Tournaments Hosted
How We Beat You
In our earlier years we won games with power and moderate to good defense, with the inception of modified rules we are now a better defensive team with ''pop'' when needed.
How You Beat Us
When we come up on the losing end it can generally be attributed to a lack of focus.
Team Highlight
Our best times are team camaraderie and esprit de corps. Games and tournaments that we've won are just an act in the play; part of a brighter picture.
Team Lowlight
Not finishing in the money is awfully painful... any way it\'s looked at!!!!
Goals
To uphold our name in Law Enforcement Softball as a refined and respectable team of Law Enforcement Professionals.
