There was a very special addition to the Hall of Fame this weekend.
It was PoliceSoftball.com's Honor to induct Chris Wouter's into the PoliceSoftball.com Hall of Fame.
Starting last year, PoliceSoftball.com created the PoliceSoftball.com Hall of Fame to recognize the people who gave back to our game and/or played it at an extremely high level. Every year, inductions for the Hall of Fame will be done at the Police World Series but this year we decided to hold one induction at the Wouters/Sawyers Memorial Tournament in Sterling Heights Michigan.

On Friday, August 10th, 2007, the Wouters/Sawyers opening ceremonies was performed to honor our fallen brothers. During these ceremonies, PoliceSoftball.com inducted Sgt. Christopher Wouters into the Hall of Fame. Chris’ widow and two daughters were on hand to receive the PoliceSoftball.com HOF Medallion and PoliceSoftball.com is very thankful to them for allowing us to honor Chris and for their presence during the ceremony.

Chris started his police softball with his department team Warren Police Dept.in Michigan. His career as a police softball player was over 15 year period. He played in numerous police tourneys throughout the country and was arguable one of the most versatile athletes on the field. Chris was a strong left handed hitter and a very smart hitter as he played for the team not himself. He did the little things to help each team he played on - go the opposite way to move the runner up- hit that sac/fly if needed and always HUSTLED. There was not a more "team orientated" player on the field when he played.

Chris hit for power and percentage. He was always the player you wanted on your team and hated to play against. He was a leader and motivator for his teammates. He hit over .650 through his career and was loyal to his Warren Police team. Chris was an all-star shortstop and in his playing days was considered one of the best three at that position. Many times Chris was compared to other Hall of Fame players such as Donny Meyer (NY Metro) and Mike McDowell (Metro Macomb) for his fielding ability.

Chris was named to numerous all-tourney teams throughout police softball which include: Virginia Beach, Jacksonville, Dayton & Detroit. He did play a few years with Metro Macomb but his first love was his home department team Warren PD. In, October of 2000, "Wouts" was taken from us and the police community in an on-job shooting incident & has sorely been missed. If you were to look up the words "team player" a picture of Wouts would be next to it
