NorCal Heat Wins B Flight Championship
Concord Wins Brad Moody Tournament
On September 25, 2010 the Concord Combo hosted their 1st annual Brad Moody Memorial Tournament at the Big League Dreams in Redding, California. We had 8 teams battle it out. Four teams in “A” flight and four teams in “B” flight. The following teams attended, Concord Combo, Choir Boys, Aftershock, Folsom/Sac, Norcal Heat, Richmond PD, San Pablo PD and CHP-FOG. The weather was around 96 degrees. The balls were flying even with the heat, (Sharks 44 core and 400 compression), and the Easton Bats were provided by Armando Acosta. In “A” flight Choir Boys went 3-0 in round robin, Concord, Aftershock and Folsom/Sac all went 1-2 in round Robin. In “B” flight Richmond PD went 3-0 in round robin, Norcal heat went 2-1, San Pablo PD went 1-2 and CHP-FOG went 0-3 in round robin.
In between round robin and playoff games, a small memorial celebrating the life of Brad Moody was attended by all players playing in the tournament. This ceremony took place on Wrigley Field. The Moody Family; Brad’s Wife Susan, Brad’s mother Betty, Brad’s sister Jen and Brad’s daughters Emma and Madison threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

In the first round of “A” flight, Choir Boys beat Folsom/Sac 18-4, and Concord beat Aftershock 6-4. In the first round of “B” flight, Richmond PD beat CHP-FOG 10-9 and Norcal Heat beat San Pablo PD 17-9. In “A” flight Concord Combo beat a tough Choir Boys team 16-14. It's always a battle when the Choir Boys and Concord step on the field.

In “B” flight Norcal Heat beat Richmond PD 12-11 in the bottom of the 7th on a walk off three run homerun. Richmond PD started off the 7th inning with a couple of base hits. The Heat's defense was able to shut down Richmond with a diving catch made by LC fielder Brian Torum. This shifted the momentum. The bottom half of Heat's lineup scored 4 runs making it 11-9. The top of the order set the table for Jeremy Schwerdt who jacked the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a three run homerun and for the "B" flight championship.

The MVP for "A" Flight is Concord Combo's CF Todd “Spotlight” Phillips. Todd played lights out defense and hit over 700 with numerous key hits.

The All tourney players for "A" flight were C Chris “Meat” Oliver and RF Geoff Crowley.

The MVP for "B" flight is LF Jason Schwerdt who had the walkoff homerun to beat Richmond PD in the finals.

The All tourney players for "B" flight were 3B Jeremy Kenyon and P Scott Mayberry.

I would like to thanks Armando Acosta for helping me run my first tournament. I couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks bro. I would also like to give props to the GM (Gene) of the Big League Dreams Park in Redding. Gene is a huge supporter of Law Enforcement. Gene found out this was a memorial tournament for a police officer killed in the line of duty. Gene posted pictures of Brad and his k-9 partner Rico around the complex. Thanks Gene.

The Moody family really appreciated the way the players honored Brad. The family received many hugs during this event. The Moody Family said they will never forget how we honored their son/husband/brother and father.

Thanks again to the team who committed and played in the 1st annual Brad Moody Memorial……Andy Domenici
