Champs, DEA Combo
This was the first Baconball National Championship but the 12th year of Baconball in KC. The highlight of the tournament was far and away the opening ceremony when young Brittney Kistner threw out the first pitch. Brittney is 12 years old and has been battling lymphoblastic leukemia for a year now. She had been struggling recently but was healthy enough to make the tourney.
The weather was perfect on Saturday. Pool play landed MIssouri Lawmen as the top
seed. At the end of Day one, MO Lawmen and DEA Combo were left as the only
unbeaten. NYPD Blues, Shamrocks, Minnesota, Ohio 5-0 were left in the losers
bracket.
Sunday, day 2 brought 15-20 mph winds that kept the scoring down. NYPD rolled
through Ohio 5-0 and Miinesota. DEA put MO Lawmen into the losers bracket to
face NY. The Blues wasted no time taking care of the powerful MO Lawmen. DEA
combo and NY battled for 7 innings. Both teams played some of the best defense
in softball. DEA must of had a premonition they were gonna win cause they popped
a few bottles of champagne they had tucked away in the bat bags after the 3rd
out was made. Congrats to DEA combo for the win
