This years Vegas Baconball saw a great combination of 18 East and West coast teams battling it out at the ShadowRock Complex. With the last three Vegas Baconball winners also going on to win the World Series that same year, this tourney obviously brings some top notch teams and this year was no exception. Thanks to the Sin City guys for kicking the weekend off on Thursday by arranging for teams to take BP at the new BLD complex. This complex is awesome and should help make this years World Series better than ever.
Pool play began on Saturday morning and saw the following teams standing as top seeds/bracket winners by afternoon: 1) Quake 2) Sin City 3) DEA Combo 4) SoCal 5) Detroit 6) Shamrock Enforcers. After a great day of ball and several upsets, Sin City, San Diego, Detroit and Quake remained undefeated in bracket play to set the winners bracket semis for Saturday.
Sin City knocked off San Diego and Quake dropped Detroit to set the winner's bracket championship. Sin City stayed on a roll, beating Quake to guarantee a spot in the finals. Detroit went to the loser's bracket and beat LAPD and Hardcor to set up a rematch with Quake and a spot in the championship. The game was back and forth with a ton of hitting. Detroit was able to win the rematch 41-37 on a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 7th by John "Longballs" Flanagan.
The Championship game saw Sin City jump out to an 8-0 lead on Detroit. The tired looking Detroit team called upon Pancake and Jimmy Black (along with his imaginary dog) to light a fire. Their dugout antics appeared to work as a re-energized Detroit team came back to win 22-10 and force the "if" game. Detroit stayed hot and completed their 9-1 tourney with a 20-11 win in the championship final.
Rumor has it that Detroit will be in Tahoe, but the real question is will they attempt to keep the trend going at this year's World Series...........Scotty C and Wax, whats the good word???????
