Typically when you think of a Player of the Year candidate, you think of someone who is an impact player. When you play their team, you are typically aware of where this player is playing and where he is hitting because there is a good chance that player will be a major factor in the game. This years' East Conference Player of the Year fits that description to a T. Anytime you play this player's team, you are very aware of where and when Donovan Delaney will impact the game.
Donovan, most typically known as Double D, has been on the Police Softball circuit for 10 years and is arguably the most powerful hitter in the game. When his team is hitting, most pitchers and managers look at the line up and figure out at what point they will see Double D up at the plate that inning.
Double D started his playing career with DAP out of Delaware. He played there for seven years and then went to the Dirty Jersey Boyz for one season. For the last two seasons, he has played with the Shamrocks and is one of the reasons that team has been so successful the last two years and he is one of the reasons the Shamrock's are favored to go deep and possibly win this years World Series.
This year Double D was the MVP of the Virginia Beach tournament where he batted over .900. Double D was All tourney for NYPD 9/11 tournament and he is batting over .800 for 2011 season
Although he has the power of two hitters, he is impressive with his ability to keep the ball in the park. On the defensive side of the field, Double D primarily catches but he is athletic enough to play virtually any position including pitcher and outfielder. If you see Double D in the outfield, respect his arm as his arm is equally as powerful as his bat. Double D unleashed a throw from the outfield a couple of years ago in West Palm Beach that people still talk about.
Even though Double D is a powerful force on the field, he is one of the classiest gentlemen off of it and he is perennially in the discussion for Sportsman of the Year.
When you see Double D at the World Series, please congratulate him for his award and if you can, follow those congratulations up with a Crown Royal.
