Santa Cruz Repeats as B Flight Champion in a Tight Game Vs. Sac. Probation
Zephyr Cove, NV.-------- Another tremendous 3 days of Softball up in 7,250 feet altitude with bright sunny skies all weekend. Tempatures averaged 85 degrees. Bracket play began on Friday in both "A" and "B" Flights with Alliance,Stanislaus, Hardcore and Concord winning their respective Brackets in A Flight and Santa Cruz, Butte County, So-Cal Beach Bums and Folsom J-Cats winning their brackets in B Flight. There were a total of 8 one-run games in bracket play. Friday Nite included a homerun derby which had a showdown between Paul Blandford and Chad Johnson of Hardcore for the title of HR King. Paul outlasted Chad in the final round and won the Brett Helmer Easton bat. Mike McMorrow of DEA( Played with LAPD) finished third. The HR derby raised $620 dollars which was donated by the tournament to two different causes, The Stepon Gray Memorial Fund to help new cadets into the Police Academy in Merced.Ca and to our brother in New York,The Bryan Bangs Foundation. Friday nite concluded with 3 more softball games under the lights at Zephyr Cove.
Saturday began the Double Elimination portionof the tournament with some great matchups in both flights. At the end of the day only 5 A Flight teams were left. Alliance and Concord undefeated and Jacksonville,Aftershock and Stanislaus with one loss. In B Flight there were only 4 teams that made it to Sunday, Santa Cruz, Butte County, Beach Bums and Sacramento Probation.

Sunday began with B Flight playing on the main stage for their final four. Santa Cruz and Sac Probation
meeting in the Finals with Santa Cruz winning a close one and repeating as B Flight Champs,
In a Flight the Alliance played well going 6-0 with wins against Concord and Jacksonville.

Jacksonville fought all weekend as they were decimated with injuries all weekend. Robbie Freitas put together a team that played with heart. They fought back through the losers bracket and avenged an earlier loss to Concord to get to the title game. Simply a great weekend of playing ball, seeing friends, Special thanks to all teams making the trip but a real special thanks to Jacksonville Police Softball Club for going to Dayton and committing to Tahoe the week after.
