John Scollo Named East Coast Manager of the year
When we look at our manager of the year award, we look at all things including how well a team is doing, what the manager does to give back to the sport, the community, the brotherhood and how his team plays the game. In this years East Coast Manager of the Year we believe have all that and more in John Scollo.
THE TEAM: John took over the South Florida Lawmen team in 2003 and has slowly built them up to the point where they are one of the best teams in the East this year as evidenced by a win in an extremely tough Virginia Beach tournament. During that tournament the Lawmen twice beat the Ohio Lawmen which are considered by many to be the best team in police softball this year. Last weekend the South Florida Lawmen won the NYBB tournament. The South Florida Lawmen are one of the early favorites to go deep at the World Series and much of this is due to the steady building of the team by John Scollo.

THE SPORT: In addition to running the Lawmen, John also runs what has become one of the favorite tournaments of the year for many in West Palm Beach. John is a great ambassador for our sport and his hospitality shown during his tournament is the standard for all tournament directors across the country. John works very hard to insure all travelers to West Palm Beach leave happier and much more tired than they arrived. John also gives back to our sport by being a frequent responder on our coaches poll and he has worked diligently on the PoliceSoftball.com Competition Committee to insure situations are looked at from all angles.

THE BROTHERHOOD: The West Palm Beach tournament was originally named the Tom Morash Memorial in honor of a co-worker of John's who was killed in an on duty motorcycle crash. John and the tournament raised over $15,000 to benefit the officers family during a great time of need.

In 2008 John's Captain, Danny Sargent, was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. John helped lead a fundraising team which has raised over $250,000.00. This money was used for Stem Cell Treatment in Mexico, the purchase of a handicap van, the purchase of a motorized wheelchair, and many other items needed to care for someone fighting this disease.

For everything John Scollo has done for his team, his sport and his brother officers, he is our 2010 Manager of the Year.
