Kickoff Preview, the Games within the Game |
by: Policesoftball.com Feb 18, 2008
No Swami predictions for this tourney but PoliceSoftball.com did want to point out some marquee match-ups people should watch for in the round robin. In pool A, the game to watch is the San Diego Excessive Force vs. the DEA Combo. For the last several years both of these teams were constructed in similar ways. They both brought power and lots of it. This year the DEA will be a little younger and quicker version so expect to see a clash of styles. One of these teams will win this bracket and it will be the team who wins this match up. Game time 1110 on Wrigley. In pool B, the game to watch is the Alliance vs. the Sin City team. These two teams have never played each other and it should be a fun game to watch. The Sin City team has undergone a change over since last year with a new name and some new faces. The Alliance will be debuting two new faces at 1B and the OF for this game. Whose new faces will make the bigger impact for their new team is the question.
Pool C is without a doubt the most intriguing pool with all four teams having a good chance to go to A flight which means two solid teams will go down to B flight. This pool doesn’t have one game to watch, it has several and here they are. LASD Smoken Guns vs. the LAPD Blue. Both of these two teams represent the biggest agencies in the state and have LA pride on the line. The Smoken Guns are coming off a Guns and Hoses Tournament of Champions win and LAPD Blue has years of excellence on their side. To make the game more interesting is the fact LAPD Blue player Tim Poncy works for LASD and will be sizzling it against his own department. Every time Poncy is at the plate, it will be an incestuous experience. Nuff said. Game time 0900 on Yankee.
Another game to watch is State Razed vs. the Dirty Berdoo. Both of these teams are loud and proud and play with intensity. The loser of this game is almost assured of going to the B flight in this tough bracket. This is game one of the day for both teams and the outcome means a lot which makes this game even more intense. The fireworks start, err game time is 0900 on Fenway.
In Pool D the game to watch is Hard-Cor vs. Stanislaus County SO. Hard-Cor is expected to vie for #1 in the West and Stanislaus is coming off the World Series Small Market Championship. How will this David do against a Goliath? Show up at 1425 at Ebbets Field to find out.
In Pool E we have three teams who will be making a strong case for A flight which means a good team will be in B flight. Our game to watch in this bracket is the Choir Boys against RSD Red. Both of these teams have shown they have power and defense. One is a power in the south and the other in the north. Who will win this battle of North and South? Sit in the Ebbets stands at 1320 to find out.
Poof F has the Quake and with their two new additions, they are a team everyone wants to take a look at. SAC PD is the team with nothing to lose in this bracket and they have a knack for playing some strong teams well so this may be an interesting game to watch. Game Time 1425 at Yankee Stadium
Pool G has one of the best round robin match ups in Concord and Sac SO/SVE. These two teams know each other better than they know themselves and it will be a great match up. Both of these two teams should end up in A flight but the loser of this game wont have much room for error against Thunder and Riverside Heat. Game Time 1635 at Tiger Stadium.
Pool H has the new Aftershock team which PoliceSoftball.com believes has a good shot to make the top 5 in the West. This team is loaded with veterans and some serious sluggers. They are easily the most anticipated team in the West. Matching up against the Aftershock will be Direct Impact. Impact is a team that seems to be on the rise and this game will let everyone know just how good they will be this season. The loser of this game better have a good game against the new look OC Hitmen or it may just find itself in the B bracket. Game time to see this match up is 1530 at Yankee Stadium.
There is a lot of interesting things to look for in this tournament but these are some of the story lines that intrigue PoliceSoftball.com. What story lines intrigue you?
