Our Shevy Wright Sportsman of the Year is a man known to many in the West Conference. Lyle Reyes has been a fixture for many years in the west and he has always been a positive and supportive part of police softball.
You will be hard pressed to find a person in our sport that is as gracious as Lyle is. Throughout the years, Lyle has been the leader of some teams that have struggled and when talking to Lyle, you could not tell where his team finished. Now Lyle has a team that is successful and is a threat to win the Gold Division at World Series IX and, you guessed it, Lyle is the same person. It is rare when a person does not allow his team's success to define and alter him in some way, but we see this in Lyle. Focusing on the brotherhood and what is important is is something that Shevy Wright taught us to remember. When we see these traits in a fixture of police softball, we know we have a strong candidate for the award that bears Shevy's name. In Lyle, we have found these traits and this is why he is our 2013 Shevy Wright Sportsman of the Year Award winner.
When asked for a comment, Lyle said, "It's an honor to receive this award named after a true warrior. A special thank you to my family both on and off the field". Well said Lyle and congratulations once again.
