New York Metro
Latest Tournament Report:
Tied for 5th in Dayton.

In 2008:
Metro is arguably the most successful franchise in law enforcement softball history. 2007 was no different, and although they weren’t top dog in the rankings and suffered a let down in the World Series they still had a season that most teams would dream of having. They are loaded with talented veterans who have a simple recipe for success. TEAM FIRST. There is no room for individuals on the Metro roster and they live the famous quote, “Individually we are one drop. Together we are an ocean.” This team boasts numerous hall of famers including a former PoliceSoftball.com Player of the Year so no matter what, they will always be in the mix for a shot at #1. One question mark was last year’s involvement of Coach/sponsor Roger “The Hammer” Akiki who was MIA. Rumors were swirling whether Roger would be with the club in 2008 and at press time we still do not know. PoliceSoftball.com attempted contact with the Hammer but his people told our people he was vacationing in Mexico. We suspect “Vacationing” was a metaphor and the Hammer was actually scouting talent at the police softball Mexican winter leagues. 2008 OUTLOOK: We did not receive any word of any new signings but then again Metro is so loaded there really isn’t any room for anyone else. They may actually lose some talent this year as the Suffolk connection has split (on good terms) and will play in the open division under their own flag. We don’t see much of a shift in the rankings one way or another for the Metro. Count on them going deep in every tournament and winning a few along the way.

In 2006:
In the two biggest tournaments of the year, Metro finished below Ohio in each of them so they are below them in the final rankings. Started the year strong then struggled in Dayton, but regained a lot of respect at the World Series. At the WS they had a big comeback win against the SoCal Alliance in the bottom of the 7th and was impressive in their loss to Ohio. Solid & classy group of veterans but how long can they continue? Had Ohio Lawmen on the ropes in World Series, but couldn’t pull it out. Everyone says this team will start to slip because of age, but it sure doesn’t appear it is going to be any time soon. Most respected team on circuit for a reason.
