A Message from PoliceSoftball.com
Last year was a great year in police softball and left us with many great memories. During the year we saw the emergence of the Buckeye Lawmen as a legitimate force as they finished in the top 3 of both Dayton and the World Series. The Minnesota Lawmen turned back the clock and showed why they have the reputation they have for excellence and sportsmanship. The Jacksonville PSC showed why every tournament champion seemingly must go through them to be crowned. The Alliance started the season hot and after a mid-season stumble, finished it hot. Many deserving Hall of Famers and Year End award winners were recognized nationally for their efforts. The hard shell exterior of Keith Benjamin disappeared for all of us as he introduced Chandler Arizona Police Officer Shevy Wright into our lives. As a sport and profession, we also took some bumps and bruises through the year but in the end, we survived like Law Enforcement professionals always do, by taking the blows and continuing the fight.
Now the 2008 season is almost upon us and we at PoliceSoftball.com are getting very excited. There has been a lot of change in the air ever since the end of last years World Series and now it is time to see how those changes affect the season.
On the PoliceSoftball.com side of things, we were able to secure Boombah to represent our Points Chase and they have graciously offered 15 pair of Boombah Uniforms to the winning team. This should give every points chase tournament throughout the year a little extra excitement. Easton has once again stepped up to the sponsor the PoliceSoftball.com World Series and in addition to Easton, Brett Helmer and and Mando Acosta stepped up to sponsor the first ever police softball Easton “Bring Your Real Skilz” tournament where the winning team will take home 12 new Easton Bats. Our own "Swami" will continue writing for Softball Magazine as they will continue to feature Police Softball in their fine publication.
Many other tournaments are doing some exciting things with format, sponsors and prize packages so this year is starting off as exciting as any year in recent memory.
As the season progresses, please keep in mind who may be worthy of Hall of Fame nominations and World Series All-Star game nominations. Once again the World Series will name our year end awards so please keep an eye out for people who may be worthy of the:
Player of the Year Award
Coach of the Year Award
Zada Enterprises Sponsor of the Year Award
And the Shevy Wright Sportsman of the Year Award
Over the last few months we at PoliceSoftball.com have been keeping tabs on the many movements team have been making. Couple that with coaches and player input, we have a pretty comprehensive 2008 Season Preview we will start on Friday. The preview is 22 pages long so we will be offering it up as a four part story with a new segment coming every few days. The season preview will focus on each team we have information on, give a 2008 outlook and project each team’s finish in the 2008 Boombah Points Chase. Yes we know we will risk making 50 teams unhappy by the rankings projections but we feel they are pretty fair and reasonable based on past history, suspected off season losses/pick-ups and which tournaments teams plan on attending. Since the projections are based on the Boombah Points Chase, they do not necessarily reflect who we think the best teams are, it just reflects who we think will do well in the chase. (Many times who is best on the field and best in the chase go hand in hand but not always) As always, if you disagree with the projections or just want to comment, please make your thoughts known on the message board. We will give you our thoughts and we welcome yours.
Finally, during the last two years, we have lost great gentlemen from our sport and we are hoping that at the 2008 World Series, we will not be honoring a fallen police softball brother. Hopefully this will be the year that no team is struck by tragedy. With that in mind, we wish you a fun filled police tournament season and please insure that you do what you have to do to come home to your family at the end of every shift.
Please check back on Friday when we profile the East top 10 teams followed by the rest of the East teams on Monday Morning. The following Friday and Monday we will profile the West teams.
