Sin City Combo, 9-0 to win A Flight Gold. Los Sucious win B- Flight Gold.
Sin City Earns Their First Gold Medal in Nevada Police & Fire Games
Sin City Combo fought off some quality teams on its way to winning the 34th Annual Police and Fire Games, held in Las Vegas on August 12th-14th. The three day tournament concluded with a 18-6 Sin City win over Quake for the Gold Medal.

During the tournament Sin City went 4-0 in round robin play to take a number one seat in the National League side of the "A" bracket of the tournament. Then came the power houses!

The first game of the double eliminations was against second seated El Paso Crushers with Sin City winning the game 17-4. The next challenge was Team Texas who eliminated Sin City from the 2009 Police World Series. Texas had advanced to the second round with a win over Honolulu’s Finest. Sin City played a great game against Team Texas, edging them with a 19-13 win. The third game of the double eliminations was with a South Florida Fire Fighter team who had been handling all the teams up to this point. The game started slow with both teams feeling each other out. Sin City went up six runs, when the South Florida Fire Fighters started their inning with men on first and second with no outs only to see a triple play stop them dead! Sin City kept the pressure hoses turned up and beat the South Florida team 12-2.

After the loss to Team Texas, Honolulu’s Finest fought back through the loser’s bracket to play Sin City. However, the Sin City bats were hot from the 107 degree temperatures for the day and beat Honolulu 27-4. With Quake coming through the American League side of the bracket and taking out DEA Combo in the “IF” game of the division championship the finals were set.

The Gold Medal Game would feature the 2nd ranked team in the west coast Cal Quake and the 4th ranked team in the west coast Sin City. Sin City pitcher and tournament MVP Keith Habig continued his dominance holding one of the most powerful offenses in the country to six runs. Sin City used timely hitting and great defense to bring home the Gold with an 18-6 win.

The Bronze Medal Game featured the 3rd ranked team in the west coast DEA Combo and the power hitting defending Gold medal champions Honolulu’s Finest. The game was everything it was built up to be with DEA winning 28-22.

Sin City had a great hitting tournament sending 40 home runs out of the new Big League Dreams ball parks. (Home of the 2010 Police World Series) Leading the team’s offense were Jake Grunwald who had 6 home runs, hitting .769. Noel Roberts hit for .833, while directing the entire softball competition, which included an over 35, women’s and co-ed tournament. Brian Sachs who completed the weekend with a walk-off, run rule homer against Quake batted for .857 with 9 home runs. Tournament MVP Keith Habig hit for .880 and placed 6 balls out of the park. Habig pitched every game of the double eliminations continuously kept the opposing batters off balance, only allowing 12 runs in the final three games! A quote from one of the South Florida Fire players “We have never seen pitching like that”.

In other action the powerhouses were in full force. With LAPD Blue, Hardside and Team Texas showing why they are some of the best teams in the country. The teams cruised though round robin play and battled in some hard fought “A” flight games.

The unknown team was the defending Fire Nation Champions, South Florida Fire who had teams taking notice of their talent. South Florida Fire was a 1 seed going into double elimination play. South Florida would finish a strong 5th in the tournament.

The other local team LV Heat had a good showing, winning their round robin bracket and their 1st “A” flight double elimination game against World Series qualifier So. Cal Dawgs. Heat would lose tough fought games against South Florida and Honolulu.

In the “B” flight Los Sucious would win the Gold medal against a tough So. Cal Warpigs team. Culver City who is always a tough team at the Nevada Games went on to win the Bronze Medal.

In the Over 35 division RSD Red put on a hitting display to win the Gold over the other Island Boyz Kauai Boyz. RSD Red could have beaten a lot of men’s open teams. Kauai once again made the long trip to the Nevada Games and showed why they can beat any team any time.

In conclusion the games were played at a great complex and all the teams played hard in the hot Vegas sun.
