John Scollo shows again why he is one of the top hosts in Police Softball
The action was intense in West Palm Beach
John Scollo once again hosted his West Palm Beach tournament and once again it did not disappoint. From the pre tourney action at Grease Burgers, Dr. Feelgoods, Roccco's Tacos and the local golf course to the free beers, food and top level competition, this tourney was dialed in from the word go.
This tourney had most of the top teams in the PS.com circuit playing and PS.com got its' first look at the new Down to Earth Lawmen team led by Mike Bracci, John Scollo, Allan Westfall, Alain Cruz, Shawn Bridger etc.
Each team played two round robin games for seeding into double elimination. These results were:
Bracket A
SoCal 2-0
Shamrocks 1-1
Mid Atlantic 0-2
Bracket B
Great Lakes 1-1
SoFlorida 1-1
Sin City 1-1
*due to run diff. this was the seeding for playoffs
Bracket C
Down to Earth 2-0
NYPD Blues 1-1
Mont County Young Guns 0-2
Bracket D
Miami Dawgs 2-0
Metro Metro Blue 1-1
PBSO 1-1
West Palm 0-2
After bracket play play, the action heated up with all teams getting serious.
Playoffs Round 1
Sin City over Mid Atlantic 4-2 (wind howling in)
Shamrocks over PBPD
NYPD Blues over Miami Metro Blue
Down to Earth over West Palm
SoFla over PBSO
Montgomery Young Guns over Miami Dawgz
Playoffs Round 2
SoCal over Sin City
Great Lakes over Mont County Young Guns
NYPD Blues over the Shamrocks
Down to Earth over SoFlo.now
After these two rounds, there were 4 undefeated teams with every other team fighting it out in the losers bracket.
One match up had with 2011 World Series Champion Great Lakes playing Down to Earth. This game started off fast but only D2E was able to keep the momentum as they cruised to a very nice win over the reigning WS Champs.
The other undefeated match up pitted 2010 World Series winner NYPD Blues vs. 2007/08 World Series winner SoCal Alliance. This battle of east and west was a nail biter the entire way. SoCal used up their home runs quickly while NYPD saved theirs and used them near the end to tie it up 24-24 going into the 7th. inning. In the top of the 7th. two time World Series MVP and former Player of the Year Ryan Coe pitched one of his best innings of the tourney by blanking the former champs. In the bottom of the 7th, SoCal led off with a double and then Chad Bankston put one over the right fielders head to score the winning run.
Now it was D2E and SoCal left in the undefeated bracket. This game had the wind blowing out and D2E got too much lift in their balls and hit 4 HRs in the first inning. SoCal managed to save their HRs and used them later in the game to pull out the win.
In the losers bracket, the Shamrocks sent home Sin City and Mid Atlantic sent home SoFlo. The Shamrocks then sent home the reigning WS Champs Great Lakes and the NYPD Blues sent home Mid Atl.
In the battle between NY and NJ, NYPD kept it rolling and sent home the Shamrocks to set up a game against D2E. In that game, D2E steadily scored and sent home the 2010 WS Champs.
This left D2E needing to double dip SoCal and the game was tight much of the way as these veteran players all know how to play in big games. In the end, SoCal had a hot 6th inning to pull out the win and claim the prize.
