Spots for the 2008 World Series are Announced.
by: PoliceSoftball.com     Jan 01, 2008
This year the west will have to earn their way to the World Series
Team spots for the 2008 World Series will be done a little differently this year. Due to demand and field constraints, PoliceSoftball.com decided to change the way teams are granted spots for the 2008 World Series. Once again the cap will be 45 teams with a split of 23 East and 22 West. There will be 26 reserved spots providing these teams pay for the World Series by May 1st, 2008 (See Upcoming Tournament Section for details on how to pay for the World Series) As always, teams who do not pay by that date will relinquish their reserved spot. These 26 reserved spots were awarded for many reasons but the biggest factors were distance needed to travel to the World Series, team history, and support/involvement with PoliceSoftball.com. (Since travel considerations were given so much weight to this decision, most of the 26 reserved teams are from the East/Central United States)
The teams with reserved spots are:

1. Minnesota Lawmen
2. Central Ohio Lawmen
3. Michigan Lawmen
4. St. Louis Top Guns
5. Buckeye Lawmen
6. New Jersey G-Boys
7. Ohio Lawmen
8. NY Metro
9. NYPD Blues
10. US Secret Service
11. NYPD Shields
12. South Florida Lawmen
13. Jacksonville Police Softball Club
14. Dirty Jersey Boys
15. Maryland State Police
16. Bluegrass Lawmen
17. Miami Metro Red
18. Wayne Oakland
19. Chicago Metro
20. VA. Beach Lawmen
21. Illinois State Police
22. Tompkins County Choir Boys
23. DAP/Delaware
24. Officers Only (Washington) *West
25. Team Texas *West
26. Team Guam *West

There will be 15 spots (spots 27-41) that will have to be earned by West Coast teams. These 15 spots will be decided by the Boombah Points Chase rankings after the Manteca/West Palm tournaments are played. On June 9th, the top 15 teams in the West Boombah Points Chase will be granted spots provided they pay for the World Series by July 1st, 2008. Teams who do not pay by that date will relinquish their reserved spot.

PoliceSoftball.com chose June 9th because Manteca represents the final of the Boombah Points Chase Gold Division West tournaments and that date is still early enough for West Coast teams to plan for time off and make travel arrangements to the World Series. (Although the Boombah Points Chase will determine the top 15 reserved West spots for the World Series, points earned after this date will still count towards a team’s final season totals and will still affect the final Boombah Points Chase rankings). Remember, we count your top 4 finishes so teams that play often are rewarded. Playing in more tournaments can only help you and will never hurt your team's ranking. For additional details of how points are earned refer to the news story about the Boombah Points Chase on the Home Page.

1 Spot (spot 42) has been reserved for Stanislaus County who won the 2007 Small Market World Series provided they pay their entry fee by May 1st, 2008.

1 Spot (spot 43) will be awarded to the highest finishing team at the PoliceSoftball.com/Easton “Bring Ur Real Skilz” tournament held in West Covina Big League Dreams on April 5th, 2008. That spot will go to whatever team is not among the top 15 teams in the Boombah Points Chase AFTER the Manteca tournament. (Basically after the top 15 teams/spots are chosen for the Boombah Points Chase tournament after Manteca, the highest finishing team at this tournament not among those 15 teams will be granted a spot). If your team wants to play in this tournament for a chance at the 12 Easton bats awarded to the winning team or for a chance to earn a spot at the 2008 World Series, E mail us at policesoftball@policesoftball.com for a flier or see the flier on the Upcoming Tournament section of the PoliceSoftball.com website. One team out of this tournament will earn a reserved spot for the 2008 World Series.

2 Spots (44-45) have been reserved as Sponsor Exemption/Tournament Director granted spots.

We believe this process will ensure the talent level at the World Series is better than ever. The East/Central teams (along with Texas and Washington teams) have always been extremely strong and their play and dedication to making a long distance tournament will be rewarded by the reserved spots. The West teams will get the opportunity to earn their way into the event by playing well and being more active in the rankings tournaments. This should make the Boombah Points Chase/rankings even better this year and add an element of excitement to the season from day one.

We hope everyone understands why we decided to go this way with the World Series spots. Basically more than 45 teams have expressed a strong interest in coming to the World Series so we looked to reward teams who have to spend a lot of money to attend the World Series and we rewarded West coast teams that play often and do well. Bottom line, good luck in 2008 and enjoy the season. It should be a great one.

NOTE: If your team has a reserved spot but has decided not to attend the World Series, please let us know ASAP so we can grant your spot to another team. If your team would like to be placed on the waiting list for any unused spots, please send us the entry fee and we will place your team on the waiting list. Entry fee checks will not be cashed unless your team receives a confirmed spot.

SEASON PREVIEW UPDATE: The 2008 season preview is coming out around Feb. 1st. 2008. If you have any changes to your team, want to recognize some sponsors or just be part of the preview, please e mail us a team update to policesoftball@policesoftball.com.

Thanks for a wonderful 2007 and we hope all of our brothers have a happy new year. Stay Safe out there!!!
