Star 6 Bring Ur Real Skilz Champions: HardCor!
by: Anthony Big Tone Costanzo     Aug 10, 2008
The 3rd Annual Star 6 Softball tournament was set to kick off in Incline Village Nevada on August 9, 2008. There was a very strong line-up of some of the West’s top teams. Included in the field was the Quake, Hardcor, the Aftershock, Sac Police Softball, Concord/OSS, the Sac Razorbacks, and Direct Impact. All of these teams sat in the Top Ten in the West Rankings, with fast risers, Folsom/Sac J-Cats, the CHP Choirboys, and the pesky boys from Stanislaus and Santa Cruz.
The party started on Friday night at Rookies Sports bar in Incline Village with a huge turn-out. The talk was cordial, but you could tell it was going to be a race on Saturday morning. Saturday started out with some great games, with Folsom/Sac taking a burner against the Hardcor group to put them down in a hole. The Aftershock took care of business and also put the Sac Police Softball crew on their heels.

Santa Cruz had some tough match-ups with a loss to Sac PD, a squeaker to Concord, and ended up 0-3. Stanislaus also had a tough road with a loss to the Quake, and then played their way out of the A-Flight with a loss to an improved Richmond Squad. The Choirboys handled their bracket with a victory over the Razorbacks, and ended up winning their bracket. Folsom/Sac looked to be on a roll, but ended their day with a loss to the Direct Impact team.

Sunday shaped up nicely with the Quake looking nearly unbeatable. The CHP Choirboys, Concord/OSS, Folsom/Sac, the CHP Choirboys and Aftershock all ended up winning their brackets, with the Sac Razorbacks, Hardcor, Sac PD, Direct Impact and the Richmond Combo rounding out the A-Flight. The B-Flight looked like a tough road for some teams, with Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, Sac Probation, and the Fresno Shields looking like the favorites.

The A-Flight kicked off with the Hardcor team getting on a roll. They handled Sac PD, and then cruised past the CHP Choirboys. Quake also looked impressive putting it to Direct Impact, then handling a very good Folsom/Sac squad. The games of the day may have been the Aftershock coming from 10 down in the seventh inning to defeat Concord, and then the Sac Razorbacks defeating Concord in a similar fashion with a walk-off Grand Slam.

The Razorbacks then faced the Aftershock and were beaten with a huge comeback before holding on for a one-run victory. Sac PD put it on the Folsom/Sac squad to eliminate them in a tie for 5th, and then squared the score with the Aftershock by beating them soundly. After the Hardcor gang beat the Quake in the A-Flight Championship, the Quake faced off with Sac PD. It was a low scoring affair, but the Quake held on to get a shot at redemption against the Hardcor gang.

With Armando Acosta watching, the Championship game started with the Hardcor squad starting where they left off. Hardcor found a rhythm, and started hitting it all over the park. The Quake tried to make a comeback, but consistently found the Hardcor gloves waiting for them. After a long day, the A1 Towing/Hardcor squad came out on top.

A special thanks goes out to Armando Acosta, Brett Helmer and Easton for the prize package and the great provided bats for this tournament. The bats were top-notch, and the winners and runners-up secured great Easton Prizes. Stanislaus made a run in the B-Flight, and ended up winning the B-Flight Championship against a very good Sac Probation squad. All in all, it was a great tournament with great teams playing for a great cause. The Star 6 Foundation!!
