Team TKO, SoFlo and the NYPD Blues are Preveiwed Today!
Today PoliceSoftball.com will continue its feature series which will show a "Season Preview" on some of the off-season moves made by teams. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of the moves listed but we are confident we will get it right many more times than we get it wrong. Not every team will be featured. Only teams that contacted us with their updates or teams that received a lot of press on their personnel moves on the message board will be previewed. If you would like your team previewed, please send us an e mail prior to the end of the series. On each preview we have listed the teams final 2009 ranking and we have assigned each team an unofficial theme song which we feel reflects that team in some way. We hope you enjoy the work on this and we will be seeing you all soon at the fields.by: policesoftball.com
T.K.O “TEAM KENTUCKY OHIO”
2009 Rank Buckeye Lawmen: 8, Bluegrass Lawmen: 18
2010 has been the year of the merger. So far Nitro2Go and the Outlaws have combined and so have Miami and SoFlo. Continueing this trend we now have the Buckeye Lawmen and the Bluegrass Lawmen joining forces. In the past three seasons, the Buckeye Lawmen have finished in the Top 8 of the East Coast Rankings. Now factor in their merger with the Kentucky Bluegrass team, and this group should strongly be considered a Top 5 team. The Buckeye Lawmen have been successful in the past with good defense and stringing bunches of hits together, but at times struggled with consistent power. Now with the addition of Kentucky Bluegrass’ consistent home run hitting abilities, the new T.K.O group should be a rather tough force to deal with. In the past, both clubs have had a core group of guys who were committed to traveling and attending tournaments, but at times both groups also found it problematic to field deep enough teams to consistently produce at the top levels of police softball. Now, by merging these two core groups together, Team. Kentucky. Ohio has an extremely balanced attack along with some depth to challenge for many of those tournament championships in 2010. 2010 Theme Song: “Mama Said Knock You Out” by LL Cool J.
SOUTH FLORIDA/MIAMI METRO RED (PLAYING UNDER THE NAME SOUTH FLORIDA)
2009 Rank Florida 10 Miami Red 22
South Florida Lawmen and Miami Metro Red announced a merger amongst the two teams. Coaches of both teams, John Scollo and Mike Bracci both cited lack of commitment from both sides as the main reason for this merger. The new team will continue to be called the South Florida Lawmen but will have a whole new look. New uniform designs as well as many new faces will be just the start for this team in 2010. The team will continue to be run by Co-managers Scollo and Bracci along with the on field expertise of Mike Kletzky.
The new SFL will be comprised of approximately 16 players. All but 2 come from Metro Red and the old SFL. They also signed 2 free agents this off season. One new face is P/IF JImmy Black and the other is IF/OF Jay Dugmore. Jimmy will be an immediate impact to this team and Jay will bring some serious power.
We have already seen this team in action at the Azelton tourney in January and they looked like monsters. We expect to see SoFlo play in 5-6 tourneys this year including West Palm Beach, Virginia Beach, Cincinnati, New York, and the World Series. 2010 Theme Song: “Come Together” by the Beatles.
NYPD BLUES
2009 Rank 8
The NYPD Blues and Dan Spinelli have reunited after one year of Dan playing with the NY Metro team. Other additions are Brad Beamer who was is back after one year off. Brad is a five tool player who will bring back the five man infield for the Blues. Speedster Dan Woods has a tournament under his belt and should be a major asset to the lineup in 2010. The Blues received a firm commitment from Joe Lisio which will give them some big game experience. Add in a healthy John Catusco and shut down pitcher Butch Crozier, the Blues are ready to go from underachievers to a team ready to take the next step up the food chain. There is still one more name that make the Blues roster complete but that signing is still ambiguous at this time. 2010 Theme Song: “Empire State of Mind” by Jay Z.
