Award Sponsored by the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff's Assoc.
When considering a nominee for this award, many factors must be considered. We feel that the person must demonstrate that they emulate the positive reflection of true sportsmanship while representing the professionalism of police standards. Furthermore, the individual must go above and beyond the normal player by promoting the positive influence that policesoftball.com has on the communities and the people that the network serves.
This year, our East Coast Shevy Wright Sportsman of the Year Award goes to Vic Ortalano of the Steel City Enforcers. Vic has been involved in the policesoftball.com network for several
years and he has shown that he has an extreme dedication and passion for
the game of softball. Vic also demonstrates the utmost police brotherhood for fellow officers while remaining at the top of his competitive spirit. During the last two years, Vic has added a different dimension to his playing side. Vic has single-handedly
tackled the Trooper Miller/Castellano Tournament in Drifton,
Pennsylvania. This tournament is a huge event within Drifton and the
neighboring communities. The large draw of teams adds to the
economy of the smalltown and the teams are treated like true celebrities
in the local establishments.
This year, Vic has added the Make-a-wish Foundation to the
mix, and will be hosting children who wish to be police officers as
the "Grand Marshalls" for the event.
Based on the above work by Vic, we are proud to name him our 2011 Shevy Wright East Coast Sportsman of the Year.
