WC United & Most Wanted Win Big In Reno
Majors Champions, WEST COAST UNITED
West Coast United’s 3rd Annual Reno/Sparks tournament took place on May 20th and 21st this year. As usual, the Golden Eagle Complex in Sparks provided a beautiful backdrop to the event. The weather offered some sun, some wind and even a little frozen rain this year but that didn’t hamper the fun.Our PS.Com family once again came through to raise $700 to help Nik Jackson (Mark Jackson’s son) with his battle against Hodgkin Lymphoma. A new Easton bat was donated by Dan Potter to raffle off and it was greatly appreciated.
The round robin play mostly yielded the usual suspects traveling to the A Flight. DEA Combo, Battle Born, WC United, Cen Cal Connection and NorCal Warriors all went undefeated. A re-tooled Oakland Police team bullied their way into the A Flight with an impressive run differential and some hard nose play.

After Fridays round robin play, players and friends joined together at Gilley’s Bar at the Nugget Resort in Sparks. The Nugget once again supplied the tournament with great room rates and our own VIP section inside Gilley’s. The player party was once again a great time and provided a good opportunity for teams to hang out and get to know each other.

Saturday’s B Flight bracket play featured a strong Most Wanted team cruising through the winner’s bracket into the championship game. A veteran Stanislaus squad lost its first bracket game but refused to stop pushing until they landed in the championship game. Stanislaus won the first contest forcing the “if” game but were unable to complete their comeback. Most Wanted proved too tough and took the B Flight championship home. Great job to both teams.

The A bracket proved just as interesting as the B bracket, considering it contained 4 of the 6 top teams in the West. DEA Combo smashed their way into the championship game with clutch hitting and their usual veteran leadership. The Oakland Police Team and Nor Cal Warriors put up big numbers and a lot of fight, but were ultimately eliminated early. WC United took an early beating from DEA Combo but were able to sneak by a talented Connection team and a loaded Battle Born squad to get to the “ship”. WC United’s solid defense and relentless offense were able to force an “if” game with the dangerous DEA team. Eventually, United walk away with the championship after a great battle between two very talented teams.

WC United would like to thank everyone for supporting our event, especially the Nugget Resort, Gilley’s, Doug Foremaster, Brett Helmer and Dan Potter.
