Officer Moody Once Again Honored For His Sacrifice
DEA Combo and Lethal Force Win Brad Moody Title
On August 18th and 19th, 2017, Cali Force hosted the 8th Annual Brad Moody Memorial Tournament at the Big League Dreams in Manteca, California.  We had a total 19 teams battle it out, being the most teams we have ever hosted at the Moody Tourney. Eight teams in “A” flight and eleven teams in “B” flight.  The following teams attended; Cali Force, Stanislaus, West Coast United, LA Blue, DEA Combo, Nitro, Cen Cal Connection, Nor-Cal Elite, El Dorado Cartel, Degenerates, DVI Gladiators, Most Wanted, Richmond PD, Oakland PD, SF Seals, Lethal Force, Covert, Fremont PD and Nor- Cal Warriors. Thank you to all the teams that attended.

The weather was give or take 98-100 degrees for both days.  The balls were flying (Baden 44 core and 375 compression). Thanks to Policesoftball.com for lending the Easton Bats. Those bats were well broken in.

Round Robin games were mixed with “A” and “B” flight teams.

After round robin the following “A” fight teams were seeded 1-8 in this order; DEA Combo, West Coast United, Cali-Force, LA Blue, Stanislaus, Nor-Cal Warriors, Cen-Cal Connection and DVI Gladiators.

After round robin the following “B” flight teams were seeded 1-11 in this order; Lethal Force, Nor-Cal Elite, Degenerates, El Dorado Cartel, Richmond, Most Wanted, Nitro, Oakland PD, Freemont PD, Covert and SF Seals.

In between round robin and playoff games, a Memorial celebrating the life of Brad Moody, and all the Police Officers, Correctional Officers, Probation Officers, Parole Officers, Fire Fighters, Military and any 1st Responders that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Most players playing in the tournament attended the ceremony. This ceremony took place on Tiger Stadium and included the Moody Family; Brad’s mother Betty, Brad’s Wife Susan, Brad’s brother James (Richmond Police Sergeant), Brad’s little sister Jen Piro and Brad’s daughters Emma and Madison Moody. Emma and Madison each threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Stanislaus’ Honor Guard posted the colors during the ceremony. This was very emotional yet outstanding way to honor Brad Moody and all the fallen Officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Stanislaus had a helicopter do a fly over Tiger Stadium during the ceremony. Sheriff Christenson of Stanislaus County S.O. attended the ceremony and delivered a great speech. A true cops cops and a leader who had me pumped after his speech. Thank you very much Sir. A big thanks to the retired Under Sheriff Mick Hardenbrook of Stanislaus S.O. for all he has done for the Moody Tourney. I know I got tears in my eyes and got a little chocked up. A big thanks to Dan Potter and his umpire crew. You guys did a great job. Also big thanks to Tyson Becker and Ralph Contreras for helping me with the tourney. All these guys have made my job easy.

The Moody Family was very happy how we honored Brad and all the fallen Officers. The Moody girls will be receiving proceeds from this tourney.

Each and every year someone steps up and does something special for the Moody Family. Last year it was Tyson and Ralph selling tee shirts and giving the proceeds to the Moody Girls for school shopping. This year it was Big Frank Orr and his buddy Warner Herndon from Folsom PD. Frank and Warner built an American flag with the thin blue line out of wood. Frank had players from the tourney sign the flag. Frank didn’t want any recognition but I thought it was only fair if he presented it to Brad’s Mom during the ceremony. I think numerous players including myself had tears after watching Betty hug Frank during the ceremony. This is what the brotherhood is about and we need to keep it going. Way to step up Frank and Warner.

In “A” flight 1st round playoffs DEA Combo beat DVI 26-23, LA Blue beat Stanislaus 33-21, Cali-force beat Nor-Cal Warriors 24-22 and West Coast United beat Cen-Cal 25-23. In the 3rd round, Stanislaus knocked Cali-Force out of the tourney and Cen-Cal Connection knocked LA Blue out of the tourney. In the 4th round the two unbeaten teams, DEA Combo and West Coast United would battle it out. DEA Combo would come from behind and win 18-17. I would like to thank the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office for lending their resources to make the Moody Tourney special for the Moody Family and all the players and family members who attended.

The Moody family really appreciated the way the players honored Brad. The family received many hugs during this event. The Moody Family said they will never forget how we honored their son/husband/brother and father.

A big thanks to DEA Combo, LA Blue and Nitro for traveling from Southern California to play in the Moody Tourney. I hope in the future that we can get more Southern California Teams. I feel the Moody Ceremony is very special to the Moody Family and all the players who attended. I got most of the ideas for the ceremony from the Sterling Heights tourney in Michigan. This is one of the best tourneys that I have had the pleasure to play in. They sure know how to honor Wouters/Sawyers and all the Police Officers that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks again to the teams who committed and played in the 8th annual Brad Moody Memorial Tourney.
