This year I would like to nominate our starting outfielder, David Levy for this award. Dave has been an intricate part of our team, on and off the field. Even more so, he is a huge intricate to the community he serves, Flossmoor, Illinois.

The Empire Strikes Back
New York Empire
This year has been a little different than the past 41 years, having an all-time low of only 9 teams. However, in the 9 teams were arguably the top teams on the east coast. After pool play Saturday Morning, 5 teams went up to the major and 4 teams went down to the Gold. Seeding for Major was as followed Mid Atlantic, The Suffolk/Nassau Combo, Ny Empire, Max Elite, and TBL. Which left the Gold as followed Maryland’s Finest, Maryland Combo, Lake County Lawmen, and Baltimore County.

LAPD BLUE @Elite8
In 2008 Policesoftball.com in partnership with Brett Helmer & Easton Sports hosted the first annual Bring Your Real Skills PROVIDED BAT tournament in West Covina, Ca. It was the first major police tournament that used provided bats and since making that leap into provided bats, we have not looked back. Provided bats have been very popular because there are no raised eyebrows or whispers of players using altered equipment. The event was later re-named the West Conference Championship/WCC and the venue has bounced around SoCal a bit before finally landing in San Diego where games are played at the Sportsplex with sister locations in Poway and Santee.

The opening ceremonies on Friday were well represented by county and city officials who are so accommodating and gracious with helping us with this event. The Major and Gold teams were pre-determined so it allowed teams to play everyone and even hit 12 without the risk of dropping down.

Kentucky Blue crowned tourney CHAMPIONS
We kicked off the East Coast with the long running Brian Aselton Memorial Tournament in sunny Tampa Florida. This year we had a strong field of 18 teams ready to play in the heat of Florida. Thursday and Friday we played a highly competitive but friendly over 40's masters and over 50 Division which was run by Jimmy Wolters. It went really well with a lot of positive feedback on it and hope to continue bringing back the master's division in the future. It was great to see the older guys get out on the field and compete. Lets try and keep that going.

The DEA Kickoff starts off the Police Softball Circuit on the West Coast. This year, it is a part of the “ELITE 8”, meaning the winner of the Major Division would receive an automatic bid into the Elite 8 come the World Series. The 2022 World Series Champion, The Connection, has already secured a spot. Meaning if they win the DEA Kickoff, there would be an at large bid, for a team, prior to the World Series.
The first of the 2023 season Elite 8 tournaments is in the books!

If the 2023 Police Softball World Series were to be played today, the “Elite 8” would be predetermined Majors division competitors and the remaining top ranked 32 teams would have to win their way in via the round robin. Carrying the Elite 8 title is certainly a status to be proud of, but it also puts those teams in the gunsights of opponents. It also puts them under the microscope of our crackerjack PS.COM advanced scouting team. This article was will give an overview of how the Elite 8 beat you, but more importantly, how you can beat them. The following is a brief overview of those traits (and insider tips) of the “Elite 8” along with a bonus team, DEA Combo which is actually ranked higher than Colorado’s Angel Armor, but AA already secured their Elite 8 status by winning the Mid Majors Division last season.
How they beat you. And how YOU can beat them...

SOFTBALL IS BACK IN SOCAL
Yet another championship for The Connection
It had been 2 long years since the last Police Softball West Conference Championships were held. A lot has changed since that time, including the venue. West Covina Big League Dreams was no longer an option and Cathedral City in late June generally produces intolerable playing conditions (average daily high temperature 108 degrees). Fortunately, the softball gods must like the PS circuit because the opportunity arose to play in coastal San Diego County at the SportsPlex USA.

Complete DEA Kickoff Coverage Here
El Presidente Model Onyx bats by Elite
It’s that time of year, when everyone is excited to see who is playing with who and showing off the new uniforms. However; the past year has been a year like no other. This was the first Police Softball Tournament, on the West Coast, since the 2020 DEA Kickoff. Usually the tourney is held in Palm Springs, but due to COVID restrictions, Socal is still on lockdown. So the venue had to be change to Fresno CA. Instead of 5 fields, there was only 3. There was also time constraints due to the facility wanting league night and Saturday Civi ball. That meant long breaks in between games, and shorter length games. The 15 West Coast teams that showed up, didn’t care about any of that. They were just excited to be playing Police Softball, on the West Coast, once again.

The St. Louis Show Me Classic, held this past weekend, was loaded with some of the best teams in the Police Softball Circuit.
LAPD Blues - Winners of the St. Louis Show Me Classic
The big fields at BMAC, along with the wind and the high humidity made for some low scoring, but very competitive games. The humidity mushed up the balls and there were many players that did not hit a home run, with only the “real” home run hitters hitting them, which made for interesting games and adjustments. I have to mention how absolutely awesome it was to see Trini and Camper battling with their teams, out on the fields in St. Louis, after all they have been through.

Steel City Enforcers claim GOLD
Different year, same guys on the home page. Congrats Shamrocks!
The weather was hot, complex was nice, Miken bats were provided. Great opening ceremony, players party was off the charts. A new format was put in place to add new competition for the major teams. While still having a gold division championship as well. It's called a slugfest tourney. We had the the top 6 seed teams play one game for seeding 1-6. All other teams are pre seeded in the open bracket with the top six teams. They then play 2 and out open tourney. After being eliminated the bottom 8 teams dropped to a gold division 2 and out tourney.

The West Conference Championship was played in Los Angeles County (West Covina) for the first time since the inaugural year over a decade ago. It was dubbed “The Battle for Los Angeles” and the event drew a record 29 teams from a variety of states including: New York, Michigan/Illinois, Utah, Washington, Arizona, Nevada and of course California which is still ONE state despite all of the politics pushing to separate it into thirds.

Hounds are champs yet again....
Tribute to PS.COM founder Del Pickney #RIP
Many changes were made this year for our annual softball tournament that probably should have been made years ago. Bacon ball was dropped and John Scollo Memorial was born. We will forever be grateful for Bacon ball and all they contributed in the past. The tournament was moved to a different complex along with the host hotel, and both received very positive reviews.

The DEA Kickoff marks the beginning of the Police Softball Season on the West Coast.
Between the World Series and the DEA Kickoff, veteran teams folded, new teams formed, players moved to new teams, new players arrive on scene, and which team has the best new uniforms. But this year, it was much more than that.

First time champs are crowned in 5 divisions
Mid-Atlantic Lawmen Celebrate As Only World Series Champions Can
On the night of October 1, 2017, a cowardly gunman opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, leaving 58 people dead and 546 injured. My wife and daughter were in that crowd and escaped physically unharmed. My daughter had to step over wounded concert goers to escape and there were moments of terror as my wife and daughter were separated for over 10 minutes while the shots rang out. Unable to contact each other, they had no idea if the other had escaped. Fortunately, they both did.One week later my wife and I returned to Las Vegas, feeling blessed and also looking forward to spending the week with brother law enforcement officers from all over the United States and Canada. The event we were celebrating was our 13th annual Police Softball World Series at the pristine Big League Dreams complex.

Mike Snyder is very well known in police softball. If you do not know who he is, look for the 6'5 250 pound player that runs like a gazelle and hits like a machine. He has won three World Series titles, a World Series MVP, and a Player of the Year with the SoCal Alliance. Mike is now on his first year with the newly reformed LAPD Blue team and he hopes to help bring them their first title at World Series XIII. We at PS wanted to take a cue from ESPN. No, we are not going to hammer politically slanted agendas into your living room while you are sitting on the couch eating your Wheaties, but we are going to put the spotlight on players and incidents from our past and humanize the people in our game. Every player on the field, whether we love them or have a little bit of competitive disdain for them, will risk their life for you, and that is something special that very few sports can say. We thought starting off this series with 2017 East Conference Player of the Year Corey Rogerson would be a great way to kick this off. Corey comes into the World Series on the #1 ranked team in the East Conference and we cannot wait to see what they can do with the microscope on them. So here is 20 questions from one of our fav players to watch. We hope this gives you some insight into one of the best players in our game. (Our comments are in parenthesis at the end of each answer)

The 2017 2nd Annual Thin Blue Line tournament started off with a bang at The Roost Bar & Grill. With unlimited wings, pizza, and beer from 6:00-9:00 how could you go wrong? 3 games of pool play began Saturday morning until 1:30. There were a bunch of real good games and we had 8 teams finish with a record of 2-1 or better to make the upper division. After pool play Kentucky Blue had the #1 seed, followed by Nassau, Thin Blue Line, NY Hounds, East Coast Lawman, Suffolk, Delco Pursuit, and the Philly A's rounded out the upper division. Maryland Outlaws had a couple bad breaks that put into the lower division but they ended up being the #1 seed. Dayton Metro, SCI Muncy, SCI Rockview, FCC Allenwood, Northern Beasts and USP Canaan rounded out the lower bracket.

Every year we recognize the best and the brightest stars of our game with the the help of our award sponsor, the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (SCDSA). SCDSA has been invaluable to us in this endeavor and once again we are thankful for their assistance. It is through their assistance that we are able to properly recognize the best of the best. As always, we received many award nominations and our staff had a difficult time selecting the winners. What we know by reading them and from what we see and hear on the fields, is that our game is filled with some amazing people. Our future as a sport is indeed very bright. All the award winners are cordially invited to come out to the World Series on Friday night and receive their award. Congratulations everyone, well deserved!

Introducing your likely 2017 PS.COM World Champions, BATTLE BORN
The Saint Louis Show Me Classic was held this past weekend, August 5th & 6th. We had pool play, before all fourteen teams were seeded into a double elimination bracket. The field of teams this year was very competitive, with seven of them being Police Softball Majors teams. We had to change the schedule a little and play as many games as possible Saturday, to miss the thunderstorms on Sunday. All teams were down for the marathon on Saturday and we ended up getting all games played before any storms came.

North Florida Showdown = New National Powerhouse
There is a new sheriff in town, North Florida Lawmen
The weather was perfect and the atmosphere was great. the fields were in the best shape in years, and competition was fierce. In the end the final two teams, North Florida and the Shamrocks were left standing. North Florida was undefeated and Shamrocks had to double dip them to win the title. In the first game, Shamrocks pulled out a tough victory, they played great all day, and North Florida didn't want to have to play them twice.

Mid-Atlantic Lawmen UNDEFEATED
Once again we kicked off 2017 on the East Coast with the Brian Aselton Memorial Tournament in Kissimmee Florida. I have to start by saying, many teams came up to me over the weekend thanking me for having this tournament but in all reality , I cant express how fortunate I feel to be able to host this long running event. That cold wet Saturday evening shift back in 01/23/99 when Brian's life was so tragically taken from us 18 years ago, still seems like yesterday. So I am the one that needs to be thanking each and every one of you who participated, and in turn helps me to be able to keep Brian's name alive.

Team Texas Pops the Corks!
The 12th Annual Police Softball World Series was held at the Big League Dreams facility in Las Vegas, Nevada on the 2nd weekend of October, 2016. The theme of the event was the “changing of the guard” as several established teams were feeling the heat of the young guns breathing down their necks all season. The youth movement was far more prevalent this year than in the past so of course, ps.com decided to market that angle. It was no longer about East vs. West, as the cyber-friendships created by social media killed that rivalry. What it didn’t kill was the inevitable changing of the guard. Older, established teams were classified as being Legends of the Old Guard, while the newer teams were simply referred to as the New World Order.
