In 1979 the Fund at the request of several softball team members voted to support the softball team. This vote was based on expanding the recognition of the Fund and its worthwhile endeavors with the membership of the Suffolk County Police Department. Additionally, members of the team had been supportive of the Fund and agreed to assist the board members with organizing a softball tournament to benefit the Fund.

Throughout the eighties and early nineties the team significantly expanded its playing circuit by travelling to numerous cities both in the United States and Canada and fared very well. In several locations the team donated back its share of any prize winnings towards the organizers charity of choice thus bringing additional good will towards the Memorial Fund.

Most not-for-profits are out of business within their first five years of incorporation. The Fund has not only survived for more than forty years, it has significantly increased its primary and secondary programs. In fact, the Fund has spent more than one million dollars in educational assistance throughout the years and looks forward to the day that it can cover the entire cost of college tuition for these family members who have suffered through the ultimate sacrifice.

The Suffolk County Police Memorial Fund has given greatly to our sport and most importantly, they have helped families of fallen officers for over 40 years. For their efforts and generosity, we are proud to name them our East Conference Sponsor of the Year.
