Shown is Flip McGovern getting it done for NY Metro
Today marks the 13th anniversary of the Attacks on 9-11. Although these attacks were felt all across our great nation, no where were they felt more than New York City. It is this reason why today, we are naming two great NY Metro ball players to the PoliceSoftball.com All-Decade Team. NY Metro was one of the most storied teams in the history of police softball and they were still at the top of their game at the beginning of the PoliceSoftball.com decade. Fast forward 10 years, NY Metro no longer exists and the baton has been handed to the NYPD Blues, who is arguably the best police team in the country. One constant in this decade of change, is that Dickie Malek and Flip McGovern are still wearing an NY uniform and they are still playing superb ball. Even though they have changed teams, they have not forgotten how to win as the NYPD Blues are currently riding a 20 game/3 tournament win streak.
Flip McGovern and Dickie Malek are both Hall of Fame players who have won more tournaments than you can count and they are still going strong as their team prepares for the tenth PoliceSoftball.com World Series.
Flip McGovern is one of the most difficult outs you will find as the cagey veteran can do most anything with the ball. Defensively, he is many times found at 1B but will still be seen on the hill with his big glove and confident stare. This Hall of Famer is a class act and we will not be surprised to see him hoisting the stone obelisk trophy at the conclusion of World Series X.
Flip’s teammate, Dickie Malek, is one of the youngest “old” guys you will ever see. Dickie looks like he is still in his 30s and will still make plays that will leave you shaking your head. Like Flip, he is also a class act and one of the nicest players on our circuit.
They will both be at World Series X and if you havent watched these veterans from NY play, you owe it to yourself to catch an NYPD Blues World Series game.
We are winding down our team and we only have three players and two sponsors left to name. Check back soon to see who makes our cut on the PoliceSoftball.com All-Decade Team.
